The Healthy Eye

The HEALTHY EYE  Laser Centre is one of Poland’s most technologically advanced ophthalmology centres offering diagnostics and laser treatment of eye diseases and disorders. Our centre has been established to ensure patients access to the most notable advances in ophthalmology. We take pride in our modern diagnostics laboratory and operating theatre as well as highly qualified and experienced personnel.

Our patients will find the following on offer:

  • laser correction of eyesight disorders – of myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (far-sightedness), astigmatism with the application of the LASIK method, and of presbyopia with the application of the LAPR method
  • consultations with experienced ophthamologists and eye disease specialists
  • prophylactic treatment against glaucoma: GDx VCC – measuring retinal nerve fibre layer thickness; and glaucomatous visual field progression with frequency-doubling technology , in particular for detecting early glaucoma
  • cataract treatment with the application of phacoemulsification
  • squint operations
  • eyelid operations: Melibomian cyst, atheromas, xanthelasma, pterygiae, pingueculas, nodules, eyelid entropion and eversion, removing redundant eyelid skin

Laser correction of eyesight disorders takes approximately twenty minutes, which reduces the procedure-related discomfort to its minimum. It allows patients to quit wearing glasses or using contact lenses for more comfortable life. As soon as on the following day after the operation that the patient regains visual acuity.

The LASIK method, which allows to eliminate myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism, involves modeling the cornea in order for the patient to regain good visual acuity. With the application of a special automatic device, called microkeratom, a round slice of the cornea is cut out from its surface. A further step is vaporising corneal tissue deep enough for light to focus on the retina. After the correction the previously cut-out slice is placed back to cling on to the treated part of the cornea.

The LAPR method, on the other hand, which has been applied in Poland for only a few months, is to help people suffering from presbyopia, that is those who wear reading glasses. The operation should be performed on both eyes simultaneously. During the operation the doctor applies the laser to make radial incisions, which results in an increase in the size of the eyeball necessary for the ciliary muscles, which are responsible for visual acuity, to work properly. As soon as on the following day, the patient improves in visual acuity, yet rehabilitation is desirable to achieve permanent effects. It is essential that the patient performs a set of very basic eye exercises every day. Additionally, it is vital to remember not to wear glasses even if the patient feels such a need.
